Fire and Water- Catherine wheel

The work that I am showing in the Fire and Water exhibition at St Johns Church, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex is inspired by the St Catherine window. St Catherine is the patron saint of lace makers and so is close to the heart of textile artists. I have made the wheels form merino wool, with lace and stitches to add the details of the spiral movement seen in the fireworks that were designed after the  instrument on which  it is claimed St Catherine was  tortured. You can see the wheel in the window. See the exhibition, Thursday 11th October – Saturday 13th October, 10-4.00
