Water Week 2 8-14th March 2015

The tapestry weaving for Water Week 2 next week is being installed at Herstmonceux Castle, Sussex, BN27 1RN

I was inspired to weave this piece after a winter walk exploring the Pevensey Levels.

Water Layers

Tapestry weaving, wool and mixed fibres.

The work refers to the layers of water in the landscape on the Pevensey Levels where the sky is a large and dominant feature.

The weaving uses techniques are based on the traditional French Gobelin, demi- duite (half pass). The integration of French ideas is significant to this location and its associations with the Norman Conquests.

Artists Clare Whistler and Charlotte Still have worked with over 50 contributors to develop the  events. For more information about the full range of events talking place during Water Week 2 see www.underwateredge.wordpress.com
